Brazil will host the Football 7 World Cup 2021. The event which was planned to be held in Moscow (Russia) had been transferred to Latin America, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“The world is changing and the sport has to adapt to this new reality very fast. It is not safe to say that it will be possible to have an international amateur sports event next summer. The decision to move Russia's headquarters to 2022 is certainly the most prudent and appropriate” said Dimitry Smirnov, president of LFL Russia.
FIF7 decided to transfer the Football 7 World Cup 2021 to Latin America. To offer a longer period for countries to organize the trip to a new destination the date will be also changed. The event will be held between November 24th and 28th.
Peru, Mexico, and Brazil applied to host the World Cup. Brazilian project presented all guarantees and won the competition. The host city has not yet been defined. The host country of the Football 7 World Cup 2021 will also host the Football 7 World Club Championship 2021.
“Brazil is used to host major international events. World Cup in 2018 was organized with great success. Such a step requires enormous knowledge. Brazil will certainly live up to the expectations of FIF7 and the participating countries” said Elizaveta Kuzenkova (Russia), president of the Football 7 World Cup Organizing Committee.
FIF7 announced before that the club competition in 2021 will be available exclusively to continental champions and accredited teams.
