FIF7 and the national entities involved have jointly decided to cancel the international events that would be held in Barcelona in 2022. The two competitions, the Club World Cup and the National Team World Cup, are part of the calendar of 10 competitions scheduled for this season and are the only ones not held , of which three have already taken place and another five take place between September and December.
The reason was the change in the rules for granting visas to citizens of various countries outside the European Union. Changes that occurred due to the pandemic and that have been modifying the reality of various sports around the planet, including Football 7.
“It was the most sensible decision. They are teams from various countries where the vaccine used by athletes does not allow entry into the European Union, in addition to the loss of important teams due to the war, such as Russia, the current women's world champion. and a new and difficult condition for obtaining visas for non-EU citizens in several countries around the world”, said Hugo Loureiro, president of FIF7.
"This year the countries will prioritize continental events, while 2023 will surely have the largest edition of the World Championship in Puebla, Mexico with the participation of more than 60 teams from all the continents of the world," added Loureiro.
In activity since 2011, FIF7 has already held 74 international events with the participation of more than 300 teams from all over the world.
